12:00 PM Marine and coastal first annual hackathon: Development typologies based on marine environment

The challenge? The groups will be given a blank marine environment to develop into an urban coastal city using appropriate typologies such as:
  • Riverfront and canalfront development
  • Waterfront and lakefront development
  • Island development

To ensure the protection of the environment and balance the requirements of development, social and economic aspects.

What is a hackathon? An exercise in problem solving, a hackathon provides an opportunity to explore thoughtprovoking solutions in multidisciplinary teams through a mock project. Split up into 4 teams, you will have 30 minutes to brain storm and draw up your solutions and ideas before presenting your findings to the other teams.

11:00 AM Rising sea level threats and mitigation strategies

Land reclamation is a part of Bahrain’s drive to attain economic, environmental and social sustainability which it hopes will see household incomes doubled by 2030. But it is an ambition that is being dampened by threats to the nation’s biodiversity. Climate change, rising sea levels,
ocean acidification, droughts and water scarcity are putting immense pressures on the country’s wildlife.
